Launched in 2009 to acclaim and rave reviews, Ragley have not rested in their quest to make the best hardball frames on the market. Revised and overhauled for 2011, featuring new manufacturing techniques, new features but the same inspiring slack head angle, steep seat angle geometry, these are the ultimate hardball hardtail trail bike frames.
Tubeset: Tooling up for your own tubing isn't easy or cheap. But in order to push what was possible, it's what we did. Using worlds first internally and externally butted chromoly steel main tubes, Ragley have added strength and stiffness to the main frame, and reduced weight at the same time. Gussetless FATHEAD tubing keeps the frame tracking straight and true.
With the advent of taper steerer forks, and the popularity of 1.5in forks for hardcore riders, steel frames were getting left behind. No more - with Ragley's adoption of the 44mm headset standard, allowing use of headsets from Cane Creek, Nukeproof and others to get those modern forks fitting on steel hardballs. With the right headset, this frame can take a 1.125in, tapered or 1.5in fork.
We recommend Nukeproof headset models - 44IESS (standard), 44IETS (tapered) or 44EEOS (1.5in steerer).
The seat tube gets a revision too, with another custom butted tube allowing 30.9mm post - so it's compatible with the "dropper" models that are out there.
Geometry: Designed to have a slack 67.5deg head angle at ride height, coupled with a long top tube, these frames are designed to run a short stem (between 40 and 70mm) to give fine control but amazing stability, with the handling that will work at high and low speeds, through rock gardens and drops. A seat angle that puts the rider central on the bike, whatever their size, and a chainstay length that balances tyre clearance, traction and hill climbing ability. Oh, and if you measure the other way - using "static" settings, that head angle sits at 65.6deg.
Frame Details:
"Three Finger" chainstay bridge is exclusive to Ragley, and improved for this year, being made from a single investment cast piece. Allows massive tyre clearance so you can fit 2.5in rubber with massive chainring and tyre clearance. Happy with 36t middle rings and gives resilience to any attempted chainsuck/derailment. Bridgeless design gives better mud clearance. Bridgeless seatstays give awesome ride and huge mud clearance. Chainstay mounted disc brake calliper means lighter gauge seatstays can be used to promote sublime ride quality, give a stiffer mounting for the rear brake, and a neater mounting location. Rear slotted seat tube provides proven extra durability over extended front slotted models. Bolt on cable guides give multiple options for cable routing and replaceability. ISCG tabs added for 2011. ED coated inside and out for rust protection Powdercoated (not cheaper, weaker "wet paint") for durability.
